Ethics & Data Handling
How we handle your information and what protections exist

What data we collect

For companies: your challenge descriptions, contact information, and any operational context you choose to share. We don't require financial data or detailed process specifications unless you provide them.

For researchers: your academic profile, research areas, institutional affiliation, and proposal details. We store what you submit - nothing more.

Who sees what

Challenge posts are visible to registered researchers and institutions by default. If you need confidentiality before engagement, mark your challenge as private - then only invited researchers can see it.

Researcher profiles are visible to companies posting challenges. Proposals are only visible to the company that posted the specific challenge.

Intellectual property

We don't claim ownership over any research outputs, proposals, or company data. That stays with you.

However: IP terms between companies and researchers need to be negotiated directly. We provide template agreements, but they're starting points - not legal advice. If your industry has specific IP constraints (pharma, defense, etc.), work with your legal team first.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data. We don't train models on your challenge descriptions. We don't create aggregated reports that could identify specific companies or researchers.

Early-stage limitations

We're an early pilot. That means our legal infrastructure is still being built. We have standard NDAs and collaboration templates, but they haven't been stress-tested across different jurisdictions or industries yet.

If you're handling sensitive data (health, national security, regulated industries), talk to us before posting. We'll help figure out if Curb At Source is appropriate or point you to better-equipped platforms.

Questions about data handling? Contact us with specifics about your situation. Generic "is my data safe" questions get generic answers. Tell us what you're protecting and why - we'll give you a real response.
